Fall-ing For The Country Side
We recently had a fun fall themed family weekend full of photos, cooks offs, and four wheeling in "the country" part of our hometown. My younger brother, tall blonde guy in the back, has turned into an amazing photographer and we decided to mess around with a propped photo shoot in an area near their house where the sun sets so beautifully every sunny day, and we could not have been more blessed with better results.
The weekend started off with Mekayla, my younger brothers GF (beautiful brunette next to him), taking a four wheeler ride to a local farm that sold hay and straw bails where we stocked up on some bails from the setup. She used a gorgeous blanket she had, a rustic old ladder they had around their house, pumpkins, and a cute as heck picnic basket to put together this adorable setting. We had been talking about doing this for a couple of weeks and originally had more families involved but life happens and others could not come. Turns out the sun sets much faster this time of year so we were scrambling to get in as many of these shots as we could before we lost light. It was a lot of fun.
Since we were going to be hanging around the country all day we decided on doing a fun crock pot chili cook off which was a perfect ending to a wonderful day. There were four contenders, and about 8 judges. We scored each chili dish on a scale from 1-10, 10 being the best, and averaged the scores once all of the tastings were done. It was hilarious to see because the "chili chefs" had all the kids serving us judges. Each new chili bowl was brought out by 8 different kids yelling "THIS IS NUMBER 3 CHILI! THIS IS NUMBER 3!" We got each chili, tasted, scored, and then pronounced the winner at the end. There also ended up being three different corn breads cooked which we are pretty sure we will be having a corn bread competition next time. I really wish I had a video of the hilarious chaos to show you all. I will get better at taking videos I promise! Especially since there was arm wrestling competitions on for kids and adults and I don't think I have laughed that hard in a loooong time. Those kiddos were so funny but so competitive it almost felt illegal lol. We were all cheering each competitor on so loudly you would've thought they were going to win something big haha.
Needless to say it was one for the books as Caroline got her first (slow) four wheeler ride and first bonfire, and even though she tried her hardest to stay awake and not miss anything, she passed out around 9 and we went home shortly after. We plan on having another fun weekend like this one in the near future to get more fun family photos for Christmas so check back here soon!
